Dear supporters & visitors of MagnifiScience Centre,
The Dawood Foundation’s MagnifiScience Centre (MSC), the first interactive Science Centre in the country continues to promote innovative and interactive ways to learn about science. We are extremely pleased that since opening its doors to the public in September 2021, MSC has hosted almost 300,000 visitors. I take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to all our visitors and look forward to welcoming you again.
The Centre has been actively reaching out to schools and other institutions through a range of initiatives and activities. One such initiative is our participation this autumn in the Lahore Science Mela with the exhibition “Brainstorming”, explaining how we access our memories and why some memories are easier to retrieve compared to others. This newsletter will bring to you other activities organised by MSC to promote our vision of “science is for everyone”.
Our team continually develops new exhibitions, interesting programmes, and workshops to provide an enriching platform for learning and to initiate and promote dialogue and curiosity. We invite you to visit our recently updated website MaginifiScience.org informing you about our activities.
After many programs and engagements and after welcoming a record number of visitors in December 2022, we are actively working to complete the third and final floor of MSC. While the 3rd floor has been partially opened to the public, a part remains to be brought to you with some new and focussed fascinating themes and exhibits.
Our team looks forward to welcoming you here!

Latest Exhibitions at the Centre |

|
We at TDF MSC are committed to bring you exciting themes that spark curiosity and encourage learning. During the past six months, we have launched several sections throughout the Centre to keep the buzz alive.
As mentioned in our previous issue, we launched Imagineers’ Karkhana on the third floor. Based on the Engineering theme, the space offers numerous opportunities to develop engineering and design skills. In addition, Karachi Urban Landscape offers a close-up look at the metropolis city Karachi.
After a wonderful response at Lahore Science Mela, the Brainstorming exhibition was permanently placed at the first-floor mezzanine. Exhibits in the section allow the visitors to understand the human brain and explore the concepts of different types of memory.
Animal Superpower theme has also been installed as a temporary exhibition at the third floor, which highlights the unique abilities of various animals, making them akin to superheroes. |

TDF, with the intention of expanding STEM education through interactive sessions and hands-on learning, partnered with the US Consulate General Karachi and launched “Expand STEM Education in Low-Income Private Schools” to provide teachers and students from low-income area schools, a focussed and dedicated learning experience at MSC, and an improved understanding of STEM.
Educational training workshops were organised, and our STEM team trained 100 teachers from 50 low-income schools in Karachi. Educational field trips were also organised to engage 1,000 students between 10-14 years of age, in active learning of STEM concepts through visits to MSC.
|
|
Initiated on 29th October 2022, the modules of teachers’ training featured activities ranging from basic electronics to robotics, climate change, sustainability initiatives, maker activities, and interactive math. The project concluded with a competition held amongst the schools participating in the STEM projects, with the top three winning teams awarded an educational trip to NASA Summer Camp USA.

More than 6,100 students and teachers from various schools in Karachi viewed the international films. The films screened focused on ‘equal opportunities in science’, creating awareness and encouraging the viewers to take action within their own areas and spheres.

Astroverse
An ongoing collaboration between MSC and the Karachi Astronomers Society (KAS) has established a forum at the Science Centre where space enthusiasts of Karachi come together to discuss and view the movements of planets and stars. To date, four sessions have been conducted by an expert astrophysicist from KAS, exploring outer space and its elements. The interactive sessions attracted a mix of young and old, eager to learn and explore the mysteries of the solar system, and observe the night sky and the heavenly bodies through the lens of telescopes.
